Elaine is proud to be part of Interactionz team of professionals and in the honourable position to contribute her personal experience, and professional knowledge of disability, to a community of practice for which she has enormous respect. She was first introduced to Interactionz when she facilitated a number of digital storytelling workshops for Interactionz. This experience revealed a shared set of personal and organisational values. She passionately supports Interactionz’ facilitation of opportunities for people with disabilities, or for those who just need help integrating into the community. She believes in giving people infinite possibilities to lead lives that have meaning.
She is a cultural/social geographer and academic staff member in Geography at the University of Waikato and she holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Dispute Resolution, a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Social Science. Elaine earned a PhD in Geography in 2015 – the title of her thesis is ‘Performative Methodologies: Geographies of Emotion and Affect in Digital Storytelling Workshops’.
Elaine has held a number of other Trustee positions for other community organisations such as the Hillcrest High School Community Childcare Centre, Artmakers’ Trust, and the Waikato Jewish Association. She is also co-director of Digital Storytelling Aotearoa, a Hamilton-based organisation that facilitates digital storytelling with public and private organisations and individuals.
Elaine has a passion for digital storytelling and how individuals and communities can make the most of its creative possibilities for promoting and enhancing social justice. She is a keen singles and doubles tennis player, has travelled extensively which feels has enriched her life experience in innumerable ways, as has being a mother of two terrific children. She loves teaching and is a life-long learner.
