Feedback on our training
ART OF COMMUNITY MENTORING TRAINING
The following are excerpts from attendees’ feedback forms
“I found the material around the various learning styles to be the most interesting and valuable for my role at this point in time, although, much of it was valuable! It was really helpful for me to reflect on what my dominant learning style is and how this potentially impacts my communication with others, especially the persons I serve.”
“It was a great three-day training and I can see how it’s really fruitful for organisations. Nellie, you are an extremely dynamic, engaging presenter and you have an excellent ability to draw people in through your passion for the work we do. And you’ve done an excellent job in constructing a comprehensive, three-day training which adequately covers both self-awareness and various aspects of our work within the community.”
“I enjoyed the time taken to be reflective of our practice as a team. I enjoyed the various tools and frameworks that we discussed and the benefits of using them with the people we support were made very evident. I enjoyed the interactive nature of the training, being able to hear from my colleagues about their ideas and thoughts around different aspects of community mentoring.”
“I have taken a fresh look at myself and my own wellbeing, and made some steps to ensure that I am taking care of myself in order to work to the best of my ability.”
GRAPHIC FACILITATION FOR PLANNING TRAINING
The following are excerpts from attendees’ feedback forms
“The atmosphere created by the facilitators was very non-judgmental in every way. There were no egos in the room to get in the way. It was presented simply and I grasp the concepts. When I questioned a point, the facilitators answered the question or query honestly and I was never made to feel like I was stupid at any time. They created a space I believe we felt safe in. Well done!!”
“Facilitators all worked together extremely well which made the 3 days a real great learning environment. Every concept was well explained with plenty of time for questions if needed.Great programme, will recommend it to everyone!”
“Several things worked well and assisted my learning. I appreciated the small, intimate group. On reflection, I may not have felt so comfortable to share in a larger group. The facilitation of the workshop was excellent. The goals were clear, our daily plan was paced well and allowed for debrief and reflection. The food was excellent. The workshop manual was fantastic. The learning material was relevant to my practice, the groups and individuals I work with. These things developed and assisted my learning.”
What participants from CCT, Dunedin say:
“I thoroughly enjoyed the 3 day training block. I thought the course facilitators were really experienced and engaged well with the small group throughout the 3 days.”
“I just want to say a huge thanks. The three-day training went very quickly.”
“I think it was important to have time for feedback and reflection after each block of learning. I think both the course facilitators paid good attention to this.”
“It really helped my learning to experience the mixture of hands on learning and group work. The way the course was structured was excellent.”
“The group discussions and sharing of experiences worked really well for me.”
“It was really good having both Nellie and Laurel present while we were practicing the facilitator roles for the first time to get feedback, particularly on the questions that we were asking the focus person. As the process is something that I personally may not get to practice too often (at least initially) it would be great to have some way of checking in or asking questions regarding how we are facilitating PATHS/MAPS, maybe an online forum or something where could ask questions, share positive experiences and reflect on outcomes (while respecting privacy) to ‘keep the buzz alive’ between sessions. The handbook is a great resource and guide for the process’ which I’m sure I will use a lot.”
“I think the time was used very well, we definitely needed the entire three days. It would have been good to have more time to look at MAPS and some of the other tools in a bit more detail but on balance the course was as long as was practical in regards to time out of work. Perhaps an advanced or refresher course in a year for the people that have been using the tools since then, to sharpen up on the finer points!”

PATH & MAP WORKSHOPS FOR STAFF WORKING WITH YOUTH
With funding from the Todd Foundation.
These intensive three day workshops teach how to competently and confidently co-facilitate the PATH and MAP planning tools, and other graphic facilitation tools and techniques. These tools are able to help the young people they assist by helping them create their own vision for the future they want and identify action steps to move them closer to it. The first workshop has been delivered to six participants and was a huge success.
“It was a real pleasure for us to attend the training. My colleague and I felt we learned alot, and it was all material that we can apply to our current work”.
