Visual Planning Workshops

Three learners practice drawing plans on large sheets of paper taped to the wall. One seeks approval from the facilitator and is given a thumbs up.

PATH, MAP and FOCUS are graphic facilitation tools – they help people see the big picture, in pictures. They are great for life-planning for individuals or family/whaanau, or for planning the future of a team, community group, organisation or business.

About 65% of people are predominantly visual learners. Using images in communication means better engagement, better understanding and better recall.

Graphic planning tools work really well for everyone, but especially those who are not confident with literacy.

The tools incorporate Enabling Good Lives principles.

Our workshops can be delivered to community organisations in our Hamilton office, or at a venue of your choice in New Zealand. No previous experience is necessary.

Workshop: PATH & MAP Planning Tools

A facilitator encourages a seated group to discuss and share their ideas which an illustrator records in pictures on a large sheet of paper pinned to the wall.

Duration: Three days

In this workshop you will learn how to develop a comprehensive pictorial plan, starting with what a desired future looks like, then identifying what steps need to be taken to achieve positive and possible outcomes.

Part of the learning process is experiencing having your own plan drawn. This gives you great insight into what your clients will experience, and as an added bonus, you get your own plan to take home!

You will also practice drawing and facilitating someone else’s plan.

The three-day interactive workshop includes:

  • an introduction to graphic facilitation techniques

  • an introduction to the philosophy of PATH and MAP

  • a demonstration of PATH and MAP

  • practice facilitating PATH and MAP (everyone will experience being a PATHfinder or MAPmaker, a process facilitator and a graphic facilitator)

  • an overview of some other graphic facilitation tools

  • a review and debrief of learning

Workshop: FOCUS Planning Tool

This two-day workshop includes:
