Volunteer With Us

A person with a trowel kneels on the ground next to a series of mounds of soil. One of their hands is outstretched to a person in a wheelchair who is holding a plant in a pot.

Some of the people Interactionz mentors welcome extra support from volunteers.

Interactionz engages volunteers to empower disabled people to connect with the wider community – to build relationships beyond the disability community and paid staff.

Interactionz has a fantastic group of Volunteer Community Supports who freely give their time and skills to help people achieve their goals and aspirations. This could be for a short-term project or activity like attending a rock concert, or a regular commitment like teaching someone to cook.

We pair people based on shared interests or skills so that natural and authentic friendships are more likely to form.

Our volunteers are passionate about their interests and hobbies. They usually have links to others in the community with similar interests and can enjoy group meetings and events with the person they are matched with.

A volunteer could be someone who has an interest in knitting or speedway that is happy to accompany a person with similar interests to a knitting group or regular stockcar meet, for example.

They often have skills and equipment to help someone develop and enjoy their chosen activity. A keen painter might be matched with a watercolourist who is happy to share tips and techniques. A cyclist might have a spare bike collecting cobwebs in the garage that they don’t mind lending to a ‘buddy’ they can cycle with.

Our volunteers learn skills too. One of our mentors was taught to knit by her mentee. It has changed the way she relaxes and enabled her to expand her skill in fashion design.

Our volunteers report receiving rewards equal to or greater than what they give.

We are always delighted to welcome honest and reliable volunteers. Of course, we have to consider the well-being of both the people we mentor and our volunteers, so screening is required.

Volunteers are given training for their role and receive ongoing support and guidance from Interactionz.

If you would like to volunteer and you meet the criteria, we’d love to have you on the team!
